Yesterday the "Snuggle Up" reading bags went home for the first time. Just a reminder that your child should be working on 10 minutes of homework each night. Please make sure that they are doing a picture walk before reading and working on sounding and stretching unfamiliar words. The "Snuggle Up" bags are due back to school by the next day.

This week, we
explored patterning. After a few
activities on the smartboard, I told the students I wanted them to make some
patterns in a way of their choosing- they could go to the "Creation
Station" or the "Building Station" or take anything off the
shelves or around our room. The great thing about this was that because
it was so open the children made a variety of patterns using different
attributes.

Scholastic
Every month I will be sending Scholastic order forms home with your child. If you decide to order books , please look at the column highlighted for Ontario prices. All taxes are included. Please send cheques. Cheques should be made payable to "Scholastic Canada Ltd.". If you are combining orders you can use one cheque for the total amount. If you have any questions regarding the procedure for ordering Scholastic books, please feel free to contact me. If your order is a "surprise" for your child (birthday gift, Christmas gift) and don't want him/her to see it, please send a note and you can pick it up at the office at your convenience.

Welcome to an exciting year in Grade One!
Our first day of school went by very quickly! The children had fun introducing themselves and making new friends in the classroom and out in the school yard. Today, the children read, played games, coloured and explored some of the stations in our room. It was nice to travel around the classroom and talk to each child about their play. Many students had a plan in mind and it was wonderful to see so much cooperation!

Family Tree
Our classroom will have a family tree that students can look at to remind them of home. If possible, please send a family photo with your child (remember to write their name on the back). These will be returned to you by the end of the school year.
Snacks
Just a reminder that our school is nut free so please do not send any nuts or nut products (i.e. peanut butter) in your child’s lunch or snacks. If you send a snack with WOW butter in it, please put the sticker on so we know exactly what it is.
Your child will have 2 snack times (morning and afternoon) as well as a lunch time. We are trying to encourage healthy eating so, if possible, please send nutritious snacks for your child to eat (i.e. fruits and vegetables).
We would also ask that you not send in treats for your child’s birthday. However, if you feel that you would like to send something on their special day, you could send in a wrapped, age-appropriate book that your child can unwrap, read as a class then donate to the classroom library.
*Remember to check back often for updates!
